Dubai CurrencyThere are no exchange rate regulations for the United Arab Emirates therefore there are no restrictions on import and export of either Dubai currency or foreign currencies. Generally hotel bills can be paid in cash, travellers cheques or major credit cards. Dubai Currency is well designed, colourful and interesting. The obverse of the note series is printed in Arabic script, the reverse is in English.
The unit of Dubai currency is the United Arab Emirates (UAE) dirham (Dh.) pronounced deer-am. Also known as the Arab Emirate Dirham (AED) in international money markets. The dirham is divided into units of 100 fils. Dirham currency banknotes are issued in denominations of 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, 200, 500 and 1000 dirhams. Coin denominations are 1,5,10,25 and 50 fils and 1 dirham. However, coins with a denomination below 25 fils are rarely seen or used. Dh.1 is about 14p / £1 is about Dh.7.3 (Jan 2007) - The value of the dirham has been fixed by the UAE to the US dollar since 1980 at the rate of 1 USD to Dh.3.67. (NB: This can change!)
